About TinyGS

Built by Volunteers,
for Everyone

TinyGS was born in November 2019 as the ESP32 Fossa Groundstation — a community effort to receive the first FossaSAT-1 satellite. It grew into the world's largest open-source satellite ground station network, open to any LoRa-compatible satellite in orbit.

Our story

From a Tiny ESP32 to a Global Network

A community built on open science

What started as a weekend experiment to catch signals from a tiny satellite has grown into a worldwide network of over 8,000 citizen scientists.

November 2019 — The Spark

The project started as ESP32 Fossa Groundstation, a community effort to receive FossaSAT-1, a tiny picosatellite launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9.

2021 — Renamed TinyGS

The network expanded beyond FossaSAT to support any LoRa-compatible satellite. The project was renamed TinyGS to reflect its broader mission.

November 2024 — Non-Profit Registration

TinyGS was officially registered as a non-profit organization, formalizing its commitment to open science and community-driven space exploration.
